Toward metabolomic signatures of cardiovascular disease.

چکیده
Small biochemicals are the end result of all the regulatory complexity present in a cell, tissue, or organism, including transcriptional regulation, translational regulation, and posttranslational modifications. Metabolic changes are thus the most proximal reporters of the body’s response to a disease process or drug therapy. In 1971, Robinson and coworkers1 conceived the core idea that information-rich data reflecting the functional status of a complex biological system resides in the quantitative and qualitative pattern of metabolites in body fluids. In the same year, Horning and Horning2 first used the term metabolic profiling to describe the output of a gas chromatogram from a patient sample. This new approach to the quantitative metabolic profiling of large numbers of small molecules in biofluids was ultimately termed “metabonomics” by Nicholson et al3 and “metabolomics” by others.

Comprehensive Metabolomic Profiling and Incident Cardiovascular Disease: A Systematic Review
BACKGROUND Metabolomics is a promising tool of cardiovascular biomarker discovery. We systematically reviewed the literature on comprehensive metabolomic profiling in association with incident cardiovascular disease (CVD). METHODS AND RESULTS We searched MEDLINE and EMBASE from inception to January 2016. Studies were eligible if they pertained to adult humans; followed an agnostic and/or comp...
متن کاملMetabolomics: a global biochemical approach to drug response and disease.
Metabolomics is the study of metabolism at the global level. This rapidly developing new discipline has important potential implications for pharmacologic science. The concept that metabolic state is representative of the overall physiologic status of the organism lies at the heart of metabolomics. Metabolomic studies capture global biochemical events by assaying thousands of small molecules in...
متن کاملThe effect of different light wavelengths on metabolomic changes of mint and pennyroyal
Increasing trend in global population and climate changes are driving forces to shift toward the use of vertical farms with artificial lighting (VFALs). The main downside of VFALs is inefficient electrical usage. High efficiency and economy cost of light-emitting diodes (LED) are going to make VFALs a promising type of farming in future. Each individual species needs unique light treatment in o...
متن کاملFinding mechanisms from metabolic signatures of disease
We seek to apply comprehensive metabolic analysis tools (sometimes called “metabolomics”) for understanding of mechanisms underlying chronic human diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. Current approaches include analysis of metabolic flux by C NMR-based mass isotopomer analysis (in collaboration with Drs. Shawn Burgess and A. Dean Sherry and associates, ...
متن کاملDisease monitoring of hepatocellular carcinoma through metabolomics
We elucidate major pathways of hepatocarcinogenesis and accurate diagnostic metabolomic biomarkers of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) identified by contemporary HCC metabolomics studies, and delineate a model HCC metabolomics study design. A literature search was carried out on Pubmed for HCC metabolomics articles published in English. All relevant articles were accessed in full text. Major sear...
